The annual Out of the Darkness Walk, an event sponsored by the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, focuses on increasing awareness of mental health struggles, fighting the stigma around mental health issues and treatment, and preventing suicide.

This year, The Department of Mental Health Services is excited to share that we have created an IU School of Medicine team, IUSM STIGMA STOMPERS, so that our entire community of learners, staff, faculty and others can walk together to raise awareness and reduce the stigma surrounding mental health concerns.

The IU School of Medicine Stigma Stompers will walk together at the Out of the Darkness Walk on Sunday, September 12 at 10:30 am ET at White River State Park Celebration Plaza.

The day of the walk, we will all meet together outside the visitor center at White River State Park, on the side facing the children’s maze. We will plan to pass out Suicide Prevention Awareness pins and then walk together to Stomp out the Stigma surrounding mental health struggles.

Please join your IU School of Medicine colleagues in fighting the stigma of mental health struggles and participating in suicide prevention efforts.
