Memorial Gifts

Indiana University physicians and scientists are grateful to families who choose to direct their loved one’s memorial gifts to breast cancer research.

The IU Office of Gift Development will provide you or the funeral home with suggested obituary language, including where gifts should be mailed and how checks should be made payable. The office can also provide personalized memorial gift envelopes that will ship directly to the funeral home.

Required Information

The following information is required in order to establish a memorial gift fund:

  • Name of the Deceased: Be sure to indicate exactly how you wish your loved one’s name to appear on memorial gift envelopes and thank you letters to donors.
  • Next-of-Kin Information: Please provide the name of the person you with to receive notification of gifts made in memory of your loved one. This includes the individual’s name, address, phone number and email (if available). The Office of Gift Development will send gift reports to the next-of-kin twice each month as long as memorial gifts are still being received.

Suggested Obituary Language

“In lieu of flowers, the family of (name of the deceased) requests donations to be made to the Vera Bradley Foundation Center for Breast Cancer Research at IU School of Medicine. Please make memorial gifts payable to IU Foundation/IUCC Breast Cancer Research Fund, and indicate who the gift is being made in memory of on your gift.“
