Sarah Wingfield, MBA, is chief of staff in the Office of the Executive Vice President for University Clinical Affairs and Dean of the School of Medicine. In this role, she serves as a primary advisor to Dean Jay L. Hess, MD, PhD, MHSA, and as a member of the executive leadership team that is responsible for the development and implementation of a strategic agenda for the school.
Wingfield represents the dean on a wide range of strategic, organizational and operational initiatives, including alignment with the health system, strategic communications, and compliance and security matters.
Wingfield joined IU School of Medicine in August 2018 after having served as a program manager for IU Health, the school’s primary clinical partner. In this capacity, she partnered with the school on several critical initiatives, including:
- The development and implementation of a new funds flow model to improve the process through which IU Health and IU Health Physicians provide financial support to the academic mission.
- The redesign of the physician compensation plan, changes to which were intended to promote research and educational activities among faculty physicians while simultaneously preparing for the transition to value-based reimbursement.
Prior to joining IU Health, Wingfield held roles with the Indiana Department of Transportation and the Indiana Finance Authority. In these positions, she was involved with highly complex, multi-faceted projects, including the Indiana Toll Road lease and refining the state’s capital budgeting process. She completed her bachelor’s degree in history at Wake Forest University and earned her MBA from Indiana University.
