I am Dr. Brock McMillen, the program director of the Family Medicine Residency at IU Health Primary Care Central Indianapolis. Our program allows us to give our residents a uniquely personal and supportive educational experience. As someone who has spent their professional life in this residency community, I want to not only provide our residents with the best medical education in family medicine possible but provide education to improve the health of this community.
Our program takes the best opportunities for education from the wealth of resources we have in our area, and couples them with outstanding, energetic faculty who are dedicated to teaching our residents and fostering their growth. Our residents and faculty truly work as a team. In our office, we see a wide variety of patients, which enables our residents to learn about diseases and how factors such as socioeconomic status, insurance type and ethnicity affect patients differently. Our faculty members have a wide range of professional interests and expertise, including hospitalist medicine, ultrasound, high risk obstetric care, medical humanities, care of the underserved, geriatrics, women's health and sports medicine. While our goal is to help you to be the best family physician, we also care about the individual. Our faculty are invested in our residents as people; we have many social events together as a group.
Hospitals included for training during the family medicine residency program are Indiana University Health Methodist, Indiana University Health West, Sidney and Lois Eskenazi Hospital and Riley Hospital for Children. Indiana University Health Methodist, our core hospital, is a nationally ranked level one trauma center. Our family medicine inpatient service and many subspecialty rotations are conducted at Indiana University Health Methodist, which gives our residents the chance to work alongside nationally recognized physicians from other specialties while learning up-to-date, evidence-based medicine from physicians who care about teaching and resident education. Riley Hospital for Children is a nationally renowned pediatric hospital where our residents rotate on the inpatient service and various outpatient offices. This provides an excellent educational opportunity for our residents to learn from the best in the field.
Our didactic sessions, held on a weekly basis, include a full spectrum of medical topics. Nationally known guest speakers provide a diversity of information and views of medical treatment and practice. These sessions also include medical students on their family medicine rotations. We challenge our residents and students in these sessions and encourage dialogue and discussion. We also have a wellness curriculum, designed to encourage and support our Residents as they deal with the stresses and challenges of their training program.
