T32 Postdoctoral Research Training

This postdoctoral training program in Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) and other infections of Global Health Significance is a multidisciplinary initiative that helps qualified MD and PhD scientists prepare for productive and sustainable careers in research. The scope of training ranges from bench science to implementation research. As team-science rapidly becomes the primary mode of operation for biomedical scientists addressing complex questions related to human health, this program emphasizes training investigators familiar with the practices, procedures and languages of productive team collaboration. Faculty use a broad-based integrative approach, supported by excellent mentors in order to achieve the goal of training the next generation of researchers.

Post-doctoral MD or PhD trainees may choose to enter training in one of three tracts: Basic Science; Behavioral and Clinical Science; and the Global Health, Epidemiology and Implementation Science Track.

Postdoctoral training in Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) and other infections of Global Health Significance is led by Kara Wools-Kaloustian, MD, director of the Division of Infectious Diseases at IU School of Medicine. The training program is a collaborative effort between the Division of Infectious Diseases, Department of Medicine; Division of Adolescent Medicine and Infectious Disease and Global Health, Department of Pediatrics; Department of Dermatology; and Department of Microbiology and Immunology.

Application Process for T32 Grant

Candidates to this postdoctoral program must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents; J-1 Visa holders are not eligible. Candidates must have an MD or PhD degree. Physician candidates must be accepted into a fellowship in infectious disease, adolescent medicine, children’s health service research or equivalent fellowship program at Indiana University School of Medicine or have completed equivalent clinical training elsewhere. PhD candidates must hold degrees in microbiology and immunology, biostatistics, epidemiology, psychology, anthropology, sociology or equivalents. Applicants are encouraged to contact a T32 Mentor to discuss potential projects. Requests for applications are issued once per year during the spring semester.

A statement of research interest and preliminary training plan (four pages)
Two letters of reference (one letter from an approved T32 primary mentor and one letter from someone who has the ability to assess the candidates potential as a scientist)
