Adverse Weather Procedure

Phase 1 Students

Students at the Indianapolis campus should follow instructions posted by Indiana University. Students studying on a regional campus should follow instructions provided by that campus.

Phase 2 and 3 Students

If a student’s clerkship site is based at a regional campus (defined as located within 45 minute driving time from the campus), then they should follow the campus’ closure notices. If the regional campus is closed, students should NOT report for clerkship-related activities including clinical duty. However, if the clerkship site in NOT located within 45 minutes of a regional campus, then the student should refer to the Indiana Travel Advisory and NOT report if the county where they are currently living or where the clerkship site is located is under a travel warning (shown in red on the map).

IU School of Medicine Employees

When the campus remains open during adverse weather, employees are expected to use their best judgment if adverse weather creates extreme travel hazards for commuting to and from the workplace. Employees should not endanger themselves or ignore the statements of local law-enforcement officials about traveling during adverse weather. Staff should make every effort to notify their supervisor if they cannot get to work, and advance notice requirements for use of time off will be waived.
