IU School of Medicine’s Jason Organ, PhD, associate professor of anatomy, cell biology and physiology, is taking on a new role as editor in chief of Anatomical Sciences Education, the top international, peer-reviewed journal for anatomy education research.

Anatomical Sciences Education is the official publication of the American Association for Anatomy. The journal provides an international forum for the exchange of ideas, opinions, innovations and research on topics related to education in the anatomical sciences. As editor in chief of the journal, Organ will be responsible for the integrity of the peer-review process and the production of each issue.

“As a scientist, educator and science communicator, I can’t think of anything more exciting than serving as the editor in chief of the premier journal in my field of practice,” Organ said. “I’m excited to have a role in shaping the discourse in our field over the next several years and to bring more public attention and understanding to the anatomical sciences.”

Organ says his goals for the publication include increasing the number of special issues, utilizing social media and podcasts and incorporating more three-dimensional videos and/or models. He also hopes to continue focusing on diversity, equity and inclusion within the field of anatomy.
