Jessica Byram, PhD, has been named assistant director of Phase 1 in IU School of Medicine Medical Student Education (MSE). She will be serving in this role with Charles Rudick, PhD, assistant dean for MSE, Phase 1 curriculum.

An anatomy educator and educational researcher, Byram is the program director of the Anatomy and Physiology Education Track PhD Program at IU School of Medicine. She teaches gross anatomy, histology and embryology to undergraduate, graduate and medical students. Byram serves as advisory committee chair of Education Track PhD students and on dissertation committees for PhD students in the Education Track and Indiana BioMedical Gateway (IBMG) programs at IU School of Medicine. She also mentors MS, PhD and MD students on educational research and evaluation methods. Her research focuses on professional identity formation across the educational spectrum from students to practitioners and in the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning in the anatomical sciences.

Byram has received the Trustees Teaching Award, the Scholar Educator Award and the Program Advisor Support of the Year, Graduate Division Award. She also received the 2020 Shelhammer Teaching Award in the Department of Anatomy, Cell Biology and Physiology.
