Senior Executive Advisor to the Dean

Neil Perdue portrait Neil H. Perdue, PhD, is senior executive advisor to the dean in the Office of the Executive Vice President for University Clinical Affairs and Dean of the School of Medicine. In this role, he serves as primary advisor to Dean Jay L. Hess, MD, PhD, MHSA, and as a member of the executive leadership team that is responsible for the development and implementation of a strategic agenda for the school. Perdue represents the dean on a wide range of strategic, organizational and operational initiatives, including alignment with the health system, strategic communications and compliance and security matters.

Bio

Perdue joined IU School of Medicine in May 2023 after having served as executive vice president and chief strategy officer at the University of Indianapolis since 2021. He joined the UIndy president’s office leadership team in 2017 when he assumed the role of chief of staff and director of strategic initiatives. He later expanded in that role to also serve as the university’s first chief operating officer. Prior to his work as an executive leader on the president’s team, Perdue served as a tenured member of the University of Indianapolis faculty as an associate professor of psychology. He joined the faculty in 2009 as an assistant professor. During his time as teaching faculty, he served as director of undergraduate programs, assistant dean of academic programs, and associate dean of the College of Applied Behavioral Sciences.

Perdue is a 2002 graduate of Butler University, with a bachelor’s degree in communication studies. He completed his graduate education at Indiana University—earning a master’s degree in counseling and counselor education in 2004, an education specialist degree in mental health counseling in 2005, and a PhD in learning and developmental sciences in 2009.
