Transportation and Parking

IU School of Medicine’s Indianapolis campus is nestled in the heart of the Circle City, offering students, faculty and staff excellent quality of life in a culturally vibrant community. Classrooms and clinical education facilities are within walking, biking or scootering distance of many downtown attractions.

Campus Transit

For transportation between hospitals in Indianapolis, students, faculty and staff can use the IU Health shuttle service, which connects IU Health Methodist Hospital, IU Health University Hospital, Riley Hospital for Children at IU Health and other facilities. In addition, the IU Indianapolis campus shuttle runs every 10-15 minutes, Monday through Friday. An interactive bus app can help with trip planning.

Public Transit

IndyGo, the public transit provider for the City of Indianapolis, provides transportation throughout the greater Indianapolis area and offers students a discounted rate. Bus rapid transit and dedicated bus lanes on the Red, Blue and Purple Lines connect some of the city's most popular neighbors to downtown for easy commuting, with stops close to campus and clinical locations like Methodist Hospital. 

Indianapolis also offers bike share programs and scooter rentals to help residents and visitors get around campus and the city quickly and conveniently.

Parking

IU Indianapolis Parking and Transportation Services manages student parking at the Indianapolis campus. Parking permits are available from IU Indianapolis Parking and Transportation Services for fall, spring, summer or a full academic year. Individuals with a valid parking permit from another IU campus can find information on where to park in Indianapolis.

In some situations, medical students may be able to park for free at the clinical sites. Some clinical entities offer parking and other hospital privileges to students who are assigned clinical duties.

Visitor parking is also available. The Indianapolis campus of IU School of Medicine has ten different visitor parking garages. If you don’t have a parking permit, find the area of campus you will be visiting and select the garage that is most convenient. For help, email permits@iupui.edu or call 317-274-4232.

At the Indianapolis campus, the IU Indianapolis Parking and Transportation Services team offers motorists assistance free of charge to anyone legally parked in an IU parking location.
