The Krannert Prize in Translational Cardiovascular Research

The Cardiovascular Institute at Indiana University School of Medicine and IU Health is accepting nominations for the 2023 Krannert Prize in Translational Cardiovascular Research, awarded to a senior scientist who has achieved international impact through translational cardiovascular science.

In 1963, Herman and Ellnora Krannert established the Krannert Heart Research Institute at IU School of Medicine, subsequently known as the Krannert Institute of Cardiology. In 2019, IU Health and IU School of Medicine established the Cardiovascular Institute to realize a vision of one, diverse academic health enterprise where people come to realize the highest quality heart and vascular care while also enabling relentless innovation that fuels better health for Indiana and beyond. In 2021, Krannert Institute of Cardiology was reimagined as the Krannert Cardiovascular Research Center—the research engine of the institute. Since its inception, Krannert Cardiovascular Research Center has accelerated the translation of discovery in cardiovascular science to impact human health, garnering national and international recognition for such.

The winner of the 2023 Krannert Prize will receive a $50,000 award and spend time in Indianapolis from May 11–13, 2023 to share knowledge and insights with faculty, staff and trainees at IU Health, IU School of Medicine, partner institutions, and other attendees. Nomination of an individual for the Krannert Prize involves submission of:

  • The nominee’s current curriculum vitae
  • A letter of nomination not exceeding two pages including a detailed description of the nominee’s major translational research accomplishments and the impact of these contributions to the field of cardiovascular medicine. Letters should be submitted on official letterhead and signed by the nominator.

The 2023 awardee must be available to travel to Indianapolis from May 11–13, 2023.
