Sidney & Lois Eskenazi Health
Built in 2013, Sidney & Lois Eskenazi Health is a large 400-bed public safety net hospital for the city of Indianapolis. General medicine wards at Eskenazi Health offer a great mix of bread and butter medicine along with some of the most interesting cases on campus. The Eskenazi ICU experience offers residents autonomy and high volumes that make our residents well prepared for careers in critical care. Many residents have their continuity clinics through Eskenazi Health, including opportunities for predominantly Spanish-speaking patient populations.
VA Medical Center
The Richard L. Roudebush Indianapolis VA Medical Center is a 200-bed tertiary referral hospital that receives statewide referrals and admissions from all VA facilities in the state of Indiana. The most complex and interesting veteran medical cases in the state are transferred to the VA Medical Center, and many are also admitted from the emergency department. Our residents comprise the general ward and MICU teams and participate in nearly every medical subspecialty consult service at this facility. Continuity clinics at the VA Medical Center are very popular due to excellent support staff and programs including substance use treatment, integrative pain management, and housing programs.
IU Health University Hospital
First opened in 1970 (with several major renovations since), this 440-bed hospital serves as a tertiary referral center for highly subspecialized care in oncology, hematology, bone marrow transplant and solid organ transplant (liver, kidney, multi-visceral) and is recognized for excellence in gastroenterology, pulmonology, and many surgical subspecialties. The IU Simon Comprehensive Cancer Center opened in 2008 and is Indiana’s only National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer center. Residents gain experience on subspecialty ward rotations in hematology, hepatology, and critical care as well as core consult rotations in pulmonology, gastroenterology, infectious diseases, and oncology. Residents are exposed to solid transplant medicine and bone marrow transplant medicine. IU Health University and Methodist Hospitals function together with a close relationship through IU Health.
