Leadership Programs

Strategic Equity and Inclusion Leadership Program
This program develops inclusive leaders. It covers a series of topics including: developing common language and consensus; diagnosing institutional bias; EDI organizational frameworks; best practices in recruitment and retention; inclusive communication; change management; and more.

Business of Medicine Leadership Program
The Department of Medicine’s Business of Medicine Leadership Program (BMLP) was designed and delivered in 2017 to provide our clinical faculty and emerging leaders with a professional development opportunity that increases business acumen, leadership skills and expertise. The program has now been expanded throughout IU School of Medicine to include emergent faculty leaders from all departments.

Accountability Groups
The Writing Accountability Group and Promotion Accountability Group were established to assist early career faculty with their scholarship and to help them prepare strong and comprehensive promotion dossiers.

Faculty members have access to one-on-one professional development support from the Department of Medicine and Faculty Affairs and Professional Development.
Scholarly Programs

ASPIRE Program
The Advanced Scholars Program for Internists in Research and Education (ASPIRE) at Indiana University School of Medicine empowers faculty members to develop and implement scholarly work in their area of interest. The program provides salary support, mentoring and skills training in a close-knit community of colleagues.

Dexter Academy
Dexter Academy was created to assemble a core nucleus of accomplished clinical teachers, medical education scholars and experienced mentors in the Department to advance medical education. Among other things, it focuses on the professional development of clinical faculty, including fellows and senior residents, with plans for an academic career focused on medical education.
Wellness

Peer Coaching
In our peer coaching program, faculty members offer colleagues coaching on aspects of professional life, such as communication, productivity, work relationships, and work/life balance.

Food for Thought
This program is an opportunity for faculty to informally meet, share a meal, and discuss the ways their wellness is impacted by their work environment (and how it might be improved).

Wellness Events
We host Medicine Grand Rounds dedicated to wellness every year. Additionally, faculty and staff have the opportunity to attend regular "Wellness Chats" where they can connect, decompress, and learn about maximizing their wellness from mental health experts.

"Modeling a Culture of Wellness" Guidelines
We expect department leaders to adopt the best practices described in this guidelines document. With time, our hope is that these practices will cascade to all members of the department.

Human Resources has partnered with LinkedIn Learning to provide current IU staff, faculty and students with access to an online library of more than 15,000 expert-led video tutorials and courses.
