Advanced Scholars Program for Internists in Research and Education (ASPIRE)

The ASPIRE Program empowers faculty members to develop and implement scholarly work in their area of interest. The Program provides salary support, mentoring and skills training in a close-knit community of colleagues.

Professional Advancement for Clinician Educators and Scholars (PACES)

Why do faculty choose to practice at IU School of Medicine? For many, it is commitment to teaching the next generation of physicians. For others, it is the calling to improve medical care through innovation, quality improvement and research. PACES provides guidance and resources for faculty who seek further development as skilled educators, innovators, and leaders in medicine.

  • PACES Workshops

    PACES workshops are geared toward helping Division of General Internal Medicine and Geriatrics faculty members plan their careers by learning the next steps to take, bolstering publications, or building a network.

    • Determine where you are in your academic career and define next steps.

    • Sharpen, develop and study clinical questions with medical librarians and citation managers.

    • Plan and conduct a QI project.

    • Publish a manuscript.

    • Prepare for a regional meeting.

    • Build a network of mentors, sponsors and champions.

  • Writing Accountability Group

    In an effort to provide structure to those who seek to prioritize their writing, the PACES program provides regular weekly sessions for Division of General Internal Medicine and Geriatrics faculty to discuss and focus on various writing projects. This group is aimed at supporting process, community and productivity. Each session will include a brief discussion topic as well as time to update colleagues on progress.

Department of Medicine Resources

  • Business of Medicine Leadership Program

    The Department of Medicine‚Äôs Business of Medicine Leadership Program (BMLP) provides clinical faculty and emerging leaders with a professional development opportunity that increases business acumen, leadership skills and expertise. The program has now been expanded throughout IU School of Medicine to include emergent faculty leaders from all departments.

  • Dexter Academy

    Dexter Academy assembles a core nucleus of accomplished clinical teachers, medical education scholars and experienced mentors in the Department to advance medical education. Among other things, it focuses on the professional development of clinical faculty, including fellows and senior residents, with plans for an academic career focused on medical education.

IU School of Medicine Resources

  • Academy of Teaching Scholars

    The IU School of Medicine Academy of Teaching Scholars is a program designed to help faculty build and share their skills as educators. The program encourages faculty to develop the skills needed to become educational leaders and facilitators of positive change.

  • Biostatistical Support

    Biostatisticians and date managers of the Department of Biostatistics and Health Data Science play a collaborative role in the research studies in which they participate. Investigators should contact the Department of Biostatistics and Health Data Science as early as possible when planning a study.

  • Career Development Consultation (CDC)

    Career Development Consultation (CDC) is a free, one-time, brief meeting in which a senior faculty consultant assists a more junior faculty participant with targeted guidance around career goals and plans. Faculty members of any rank can request a CDC. Consultants are senior faculty from IU School of Medicine, and usually should be chosen from outside the participant's home department.

  • Communicating Science Program

    The Communicating Science Program trains the next generation of scientists and health professionals to communicate more effectively with the public, public officials, the media and others outside their own discipline.

  • Faculty Affairs Professional Development and Diversity (FAPDD)

    The vision of Faculty Affairs, Professional Development, and Diversty (FAPDD) is to develop a vibrant, diverse community where each faculty member has the optimal capability to make meaningful contributions to their career goals and institution's mission.

  • Leadership in Academic Medicine (LAMP)

    The Leadership in Academic Medicine Program (LAMP) is a year-long, cohort-based faculty development and orientation program for faculty in the second or third years of their appointment. The seminars introduce participants to the fundamentals of career planning, self-management and leadership skills.

  • Medical Librarian Resources

    Medical Librarians Laura Menard, MLS and Julia Stumpff, MSLIS are excellent resources for General Internal Medicine and Geriatrics faculty members. Visit the Ruth Lilly Medical Library for more information on how they can assist with medical research.

    AAIM Innovation Grants foster educational innovations in academic internal medicine through its annual grant program.

  • Evans Center Value Grants

    The Daniel F. Evans Center for Religious and Spiritual Values in Healthcare has announced the 2022-2024 Values Fund Grant Program.

  • Indiana CTSI Open Funding Opportunities

    There are numerous Indiana CTSI funding opportunities currently accepting applications, including IU Health Values Grants.
