Research in Residency

IU School of Medicine Department of Ophthalmology is a leader in cutting edge eye research covering broad areas such as age-related macular degeneration (AMD), diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, stem cell research, as well as inherited and pediatric eye diseases. Residents are encouraged and supported to conduct research during their training.

The research staff and faculty guide the residents through topic and mentor selection, IRB approval, funding and manuscript preparation. All PGY3 and PGY4 residents participate in our annual Trainee’s Day program in June of each year. An award is presented to the best resident research project, which is voted on by all faculty.

Residents are also supported with time off as well as funding to present as primary author at regional and national meetings.
