Pediatric Psychology Postdoctoral Fellowship in Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition

The Department of Psychiatry is now accepting applications for a one year postdoctoral fellowship in pediatric psychology, with an emphasis in Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology, & Nutrition. The preferred start date is July or August 2023.

Fellow time is primarily clinical effort with optional research opportunities. Clinical training focuses on developing a specialized expertise in pediatric GI psychology through work in multidisciplinary GI clinics such as motility, healthy weight management, and transplant at Riley Hospital for Children as well as outpatient and group care. Adjunctive clinic training opportunities include pain management clinics and the consultation liaison service.

Fellows will have the opportunity to provide psychological evaluation and intervention services in the Riley Outpatient Center. Other clinical training opportunities may include biofeedback, pre-surgical evaluations, and supervision.

The Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition was founded within Indiana University School of Medicine Department of Pediatrics in 1969 and has a distinguished history of treating conditions of the digestive tract, liver, and pancreas. U.S. News and World Report 2020-2021 recognized Riley Gastroenterology and Gastroenterology Surgery as one of the nation’s best.

Additional Opportunities

Research opportunities are varied and abundant. If interested in research, fellows will collaborate with training directors to develop a research plan for the fellowship that incorporates the fellow’s interests and career goals. Additional opportunities exist for fellows to gain experience in teaching, supervision, program development, and quality improvement projects.

In the Pediatric Pain Clinic, fellows will have the opportunity to provide psychological evaluation and intervention services with a multidisciplinary team including physicians, nurse practitioners, and physical therapy. Other clinical training opportunities in pain clinic may include biofeedback, pre-surgical evaluations, and consultation liaison services for patients medically hospitalized for pain-related conditions or chronic pain rehabilitation.

On the Consultation Liaison Service, the fellow will work with other members of the CL team  to provide consultation services to patients who are medically hospitalized at Riley.

Application Requirements

Eligible applicants will have: 1) a doctoral degree conferred from an APA-accredited program in Clinical or Counseling Psychology, and 2) completed a pre-doctoral internship or anticipate completion prior to beginning of the fellowship. Experience in pediatric psychology is preferred.
