Vera Bradley Foundation Center for Breast Cancer Research

Breast Cancer Research Advances

Approximately 30 researchers work together in the Vera Bradley Foundation Center for Breast Cancer Research to discover methods to treat, prevent and cure breast cancer.

The highly collaborative team includes experts from a number of specialties, including oncology, surgery, genetics, pathology, biochemistry and anatomy. Together, these physicians and scientists are translating laboratory discoveries into new solutions for patients. Members of the Vera Bradley Foundation Center play a critical role in making first-to-human drugs available to patients in Indiana as part of clinical trials and work in partnership with researchers around the country to test the most promising potential therapies.

In addition to developing new treatments for some of the most difficult-to-treat types of breast cancer, the team is answering other pressing questions. For example, IU School of Medicine researchers are identifying biomarkers that could lead to earlier detection of breast cancer, exploring how racial and ethnic differences affect breast cancer, shortening the length of therapy, and learning how women can regain muscle strength following treatment.
