Electrophysiology Core

The Electrophysiology Core performs rodent brain slice recordings. Examples of recordings include measures of synaptic transmission, long-term plasticity, cellular excitability, and testing pharmacological responses. The Core is capable of utilizing optogenetic and chemogenetic tools. Electrophysiological assessments of brain function in rodent models is a specialty of the Core. Services include data collection, data analysis, and write up of results if requested.

What can the Core do for you?

  • Assess how a genetic mutation affects action potential firing or synaptic plasticity such as long-term potentiation.
  • Perform concentration-response assessments of drug treatments.
  • Validate that an in vivo manipulation produces a neurobiological effect at the cellular level.
  • Identify physiological mechanisms that underlie measured behaviors.
  • Determine the functional consequences of biochemical or anatomical changes measured at synapses, neurons, and/or glia.
  • Assess cell type-specific mechanisms or consequences of a treatment.
  • Determine how manipulations of one cell type affect other nearby cell types and neuronal population responses.
