Faculty support for researchers at IU School of Medicine helps investigators access information and tools to conduct successful research programs.

Research Support for Investigators

IU School of Medicine provides support resources to help investigators access information and tools necessary to conduct successful research programs. Through the Office of Research Administration, scientists can access grant administration and reporting support, fiscal compliance guidance and other services. Information and application forms for a variety of internal and local research funding opportunities are also available, including Biomedical Research Grants, Showalter Scholars and Showalter Research Trust Funding, Internal Pilot Funding and more. In addition, Faculty Affairs and Professional Development hosts seminars and workshops for research faculty and offers guides and advice from the NIH and other funding organizations.

Grant Proposal Support and Mentoring

Investigators seeking to improve their grant applications and move their discoveries into successful translational research project can make use of several peer-review opportunities offered by the IU School of Medicine and the Indiana Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute:

The Independent Investigator Incubator (often called I-cubed) is designed to help junior faculty members compete in the modern research environment by pairing them with a senior faculty “supermentor.” This resource also provides access to a professional grant writer, administrative support and a biostatistician.

Multidisciplinary committees of researchers assist investigators in converting ideas/hypotheses into well-designed translational research projects. The teams provide investigators access to protocol development; pilot funding; biostatistics; IRB/regulatory and nursing support; facilitation of collaboration with other investigators; and access to core resources on the IUPUI, IU, Purdue and Notre Dame campuses.

Connecting Researchers and Translational Expertise Program (also known as iCReATE) is made up of Translational Development Teams who are available to assist with revisions of external grant submissions. The teams are comprised of experienced study section reviewers who can provide investigators with insight to reviewers’ comments, research funds to add preliminary data and assistance with grantsmanship.

Investigators can access the most current research grant forms and view samples of modular budgets and biosketches on the NIH Forms and Applications page.
