LGBTQ+ Health Track

The Psychiatry Residency's LGBTQ+ Health Track is intended to supplement the clinical training of residents interested in and committed to the whole-person care of sexual and gender diverse patients beyond the post-graduate training.

Through a collaboration with the Eskenazi Gender Health Program and other clinical partners in the Indianapolis area, select residents will be offered experiences during residency that serve the LGBTQ+ community. In addition to direct clinical experience and supervision, residents will be expected to engage in scholarly and volunteer/advocacy activities promoting health and wellness of the LGBTQ+ community as well as attend didactics of advanced competency in the care of our patients. There will also be opportunities for interprofessional collaboration with other specialties in LGBTQ+ education and health care.

Residents in this track can expect to:

  • Complete residency training with advanced competency in the clinical care of LGBTQ+ patients as related to psychiatry.
  • Demonstrate understanding of the primary care of LGBTQ+ patients including medical assistance with transition for trans and nonbinary individuals.
  • Participate regularly in the LGBTQ+ Health ECHO series, the Eskenazi Gender Health Clinic case conferences, and Morbidity and Mortality rounds.
  • Participate in extracurricular didactics including the annual LGBTQ+ Health Care Conference, journal clubs, LGBTQ+ interprofessional retreat, and film screenings
  • Participate in a scholarly project to aid in the advancement of the care of the LGBTQ+ community. This could  be in the form of research, a paper, a presentation, a service project, development of curriculum, etc.
  • Contribute to peer or medical education efforts by presenting a didactic for the LGBTQ+ Health ECHO series or the LGBTQ+ Health Care Conference.
