Advocacy and Awareness

Whether it's through participation in events like White Coats for Black Lives or discussions organized by the Women in Radiology group, the department's DEIJ Committee aims to connect faculty, staff and trainees with opportunities to learn, grow and support each other and their community. From engaging opportunities that shed light on groups who are underrepresented in medicine to unique conversations that bring awareness to microaggressions the DEIJ Committee encourages current and future colleagues always to listen and remain eager for change.

Hispanic Radiology Group Outreach Event

The department held its first outreach event for the Hispanic Radiology Group (HRG). The event was an amazing opportunity where resident leaders Abner Mercado Arocho, MD and Patrick Serrano, MD presented to diverse medical students about radiology as a career. They were supported by faculty leaders Juan Tejada, MD, Atul Agarwal, MD and Leah Sieck, MD. The medical students heard from our residents and attending faculty about their journeys to radiology.

SNMA Outreach

Tina Harris, MD presented an hour-long presentation, called "Why Radiology?" during a regional Student National Medical Association (SNMA) Outreach event. This event is a great opportunity for learners and faculty to connect and discover programs across the United States. First year resident, Yolanda Shaw, MD and Leah Sieck, MD volunteered for a live chat in the department's virtual booth.
